Nursing Home Negligence
Under federal law, all residents in nursing homes are entitled to receive quality care and live in an environment that improves or maintains the quality of their physical and mental health. They are entitled to be free from neglect and abuse and should be treated with the dignity and respect we afford to all people. However, residents often become victims in the same nursing homes which their families have entrusted to care for their loved one. Any of the following could be evidence that your loved one has been the victim of a nursing home's negligence:
- Unexplained bruises, cuts, burns, sprains, or fractures
- Resident being kept in an over-medicated state
- Bedsores
- Unexplained venereal disease or genital infections; vaginal or anal bleeding; torn, stained, or bloody underclothing
- Repeated falls
- Staff refusing to allow visitors to see resident or delays in allowing visitors to see resident
- Staff not allowing resident to be alone with visitor
- Wandering and elopement
